Conference in Malawi

Beginning of October we spent five intense days participating in the annual conference of the Evangelical Missionary Church in Malawi, we have assisted this same church in Mozambique. We were received with joy by our fellow brothers. The conference began on Thursday the 7th and ended on Sunday the 10^th. On Saturday morning, we baptized 27 new converts who had prepared for baptism. In the afternoon, we had a worship service and at night showed the Jesus film for the whole community near the church. On Sunday we had a morning service, ending the conference and in the late afternoon we had a special worship service for the Bible school students who were graduating. It was a very special time because we saw that even with so many difficulties; the joy of our brothers in Christ was contagious. The pastor was very happy with our presence, because when he was in Chimoio back in May, he invited us to participate in this conference. They wanted us to spend more time with them. For us it was a gift of God, participating in this conference, it was truly a blessing! The church in Malawi has a good structure and Pastor Benjamin has done a great job. He is a man of prayer and has a servant's heart, during these days that we were with him; he did the utmost to provide everything we needed. We want to thank our wonderful God for this opportunity, to Him, all the honour and glory

Cassava and Sugarcane Course

This was the first course of the processing of cassava and sugarcane, held at Prisao Cabeca de Velho in Chimoio. We had the participation of many prisoners as students and even some officials. During the course we taught many recipes made with cassava and sugar, and also to taught cane molasses, besides canning of sweet and salty. The course was a great success and we are already organizing to do the next course.

Seminar in Mpucuta

We conducted a seminar and the inauguration of Missionary Evangelical Church of Mozambique in the area of Mpucuta, 45 km from Chimoio. It is a very poor community but the people always have a smile on their faces. We had a good time together with the brothers, in addition to the inauguration of the church, we ministered to the leaders of several local churches.

Seminar in Sussundenga

Seminar held in the month of May in the district of Sussundenga with several local pastors. We taught for two days, these brothers need much teaching of the word of God. To get an idea of the shortage of teaching here, many of these seminars that we do for 2 or 3 days for many pastors it's like a seminary formation. Especially when we provide teaching materials for them, it is a great joy. There is such a shortage of evangelical teaching material, please pray for us.

Seminar at Pentecostal Church

In April we had a seminar at the Pentecostal Church of Chimoio, with nearly 150 leaders from various location in the country. We were there two days teaching these pastors and leaders, and we had a very blessed time with these dear brothers. It is very rewarding for me because every seminar is a new experience. These seminars have brought forward many invitations to new seminars, and God has blessed us tremendously. I praise God for every seminar I have the privilege of ministering.

Sorry for the absence but these past few months have been very busy. This year we have had many problems with the internet making it difficult to update the blog. But thank God we've had a lot of work and it has been a blessing. So I am sharing with you some pictures of the work we've done over these months.

The photos below are the latest worship services in the prison where I was preaching. Every worship performed in prison God does something new and many lives have been saved. Praise the name of the Lord Jesus.

Breakdown in Fibre-Optic Cable

On April 26, between Beira and Vilanculos, there was a breakdown in the fibre optic submarine cable of Telecommunications Company of Mozambique (TDM) and this has caused several problems in the communication network and services affecting, telephone lines and Internet in the seven provinces of central and northern regions of the country. In the centre and north of the country, banks weren't operating transactions, only deposits. Customers who wanted to pay their bills using credit cards and debit could not do it for lack of system. All services was virtually paralysed.

The breakdown of the fibre optic cable, which carries communications between the southern, central and northern Mozambique, is serious. The repair should take at least four weeks because the country does not have the technical means to fix. The undersea cable was cut, at an approximate distance of 110km from the coast of Vilanculos and at a depth of 35 metres. The repair of the cable depends on resources from abroad.

At the moment we are without communication because of this matter, please help us in prayer so that this problem will be solved as soon as possible.

Working with Children

Beloved, I am putting some photos of the work we have been doing with children, and I want to explain about these pictures and what is the desire of our heart.

As you can see, the photos are of children in 3 small schools where we're doing some evangelistic activities.These small schools are the following: Project Kukula Pabozi, kids of Pr Madeira and a school that was built by Pr Madeira in the Prison Ministry's lot. We are helping these projects that work with orphans and needy because we believe that children are the future of this country, and mainly because the Lord Jesus loves them very much. But for us is very difficult to see how they do activities with the children in these centers, because even the few institutions that work with children in this country do not have any structure and are not qualified for such work. But most do because it is a great source for raising money. We were shocked at the way these children are treated in these centers. And we have prayed and felt very strongly in our hearts to make a center where we can get the kids and treat them with respect and affection, and not how they are treated in centers. Using suitably trained and qualified people to work with children. Today we are working with nearly 150 children in 3 centers but without any structure and we cannot change the way they teach because we have no freedom to change. And as we have a large area that belongs to Prison Ministry today is almost abandoned and full of weeds. So we are thinking of raising funds to build a machessa and 3 rooms with burnt bricks which is not very expensive, just something simple that can be improved in the future and where we'll be better organized to do a good job with the kids and something that we have control. For this I'm trying some partnerships to get the funds to do these simple constructions that can be expanded in the future, and I want to use the same infrastructure to provide training for pastors and leaders and also train teachers of children. For this first stage I need US$3,000 which would be enough to build classrooms and begin to receive the children. Please help us in prayer so we get this money. Email this project to friends and church, if each of us donate the equivalent of a coca cola, we'll see this dream come true. Can you help us? Dear friends and brothers in Christ, the grace and peace of the Lord.
As it's not different in Africa, we started the year 2010 with much struggle and also with hard work, but also with the blessings of the Lord. We believe that this will be a year when we do great things in the Kingdom of God here in Mozambique and in particular in Chimoio. This year we are returning some activities that we've been doing very little because of other services. For example I will return to a course of Bible school that was in our house and it already has a group of brothers and leaders who will be studying with us starting this month. Next week we are starting to work with children again, because before we assisted other projects but now we want to start ours. We will start next week with some children, quite simple, our goal is to reach the children of this community where we will be working with the word of God. We have a project done in this direction, so all we need is prayer and financial resources.
The work with the prisons has been very good and has given amazing results. Last Saturday in the service we had 32 new converts and it was a blessing to worship. During the month of May we will give a 2-week course to teach inmates to use cassava and sugarcane, this course is also part of the project we want to start to reach the poor communities here in Chimoio.

Last Sunday was another blessing because we started a new congregation of our church, and it's where I'll be assisting. The first service was very good although there wasn't a large crowd, we had 11 adults and 40 children, and 3 people accepted Jesus. The next service will be much better because on Saturday we will do evangelism. Please pray for this work, it's a very poor neighbourhood that is 8 miles from where we live and there are many wizards and prophets, and we need a lot of grace from God.

Please continue supporting us with your prayers so that we can keep doing what God wants in this country, and seeking new strategies of the Lord for the success of our ministry in Africa. Once again thank you for all you have done for us and for your faithfulness to us regarding our finances. May God bless you more and make you prosper in all things. We never forget that all of this is only possible because you believed in us.

JOBUS Project

JOBUS - Youth Pursuing Dreams, is a desire I have in my heart and I would like to share with you this dream.

We, as Christian Educators, in agreement with the directives of M.P.N.E, decided to implement “PROJECT JOBUS” as we consider the education and reintegration of children and youth into society as well as help develop Christian character, as indispensable.
We believe that through Christian education, we will be able to develop new and good habits that will shape their character, and supply the knowledge that they need.
In this way, we will be contributing to the adjustment of a youth into society and preparing him to be a useful citizen, happy and self-governed by divine and God fearing principles.

POPULATION TARGETED: This social and cultural project is aimed at needy children, teenagers and youth in the community aged between 5 and 26 years, who live in Chimoio, Mozambique and need an opportunity to change their life.

– GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Our general objective is to offer the participants, an integrated vision for life:
*A manifest faith in the triune God evidenced by attitudes and correct behaviour;
*Strong family, society and church links;
* Food and help to those in need;
* To take care of their wellbeing, physically, emotionally and spiritually

- SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
*Testimony of the love of God, meeting the needs of others
*Promotion of the participants’ well being in the following areas:
-Spiritual area
-Physical area
-Social area

Jobus is a totally independent cultural project within MPNE, Ministerio Prisional Nova Esperança. This project was started on the 1st September 2009, in Chimoio.

Jobus objectives: To respect and fight for the dreams of the youth with actions and positive attitudes, so that they will be able to reach their dreams; to promote the implementation of training courses, arts, culture, leisure, sports, athletics, and entertainment for their well being and to fight HIV/AIDS.
Training on drugs, smoking, family planning, unwanted pregnancy, sex, hygiene, health, educational videos, among others.

Main activities: Drawing, plastic art, sowing & tailoring, educational radio, hairdressing, theatre, music classes, athletics, dance, music and video production, photography and sound studio, lectures, reading (library), internal news paper.

Expected results:
- More knowledge for teenagers and adults
- Reintegration of child, youth and adult in social life
- Enablement of these youth to live within the culture
- Occupation of time of youth to diminish practices such as:
- Addictive sex, child prostitution, abortion
- Theft, vices such as drinking and drugs
- Unwanted and early pregnancy
- Better motivation for life and income for the families registered in the activities

New congregation in Nhaurir

Last Sunday, 31 January, was the first worship service in the new congregation of our church, at the Nhaurir neighbourhood near the city of Chimoio, where I am now pastoring. It was a great blessing to see so many children in church hearing the word of God. Like all early work we didn't have a large number of people, but we had 11 adults and some 40 children; and most important of all this we had 3 new converts. Please pray for this work, because it's an area very needy for the word of God.

Dear Friends and Brethren in Christ: Grace and peace in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hope you're all in good health, we are all well. Like the passage above says we are here planting the word of God, believing that we will see the rewards of our hard work. Work at the prison has been a blessing. Many young people have accepted Christ as their Saviour at the Friday service at the PIC (Criminal Investigation Police). Also the prison of Cabeca de Velho where several inmates converted and have been in discipleship and God has really used them. Some have even preached at the service. For us that is truly a gratifying. As well as the services in prison we have been doing some activities like sewing, mechanics, welding, and carpentry but the truth is that everything is running with some difficulty for lack of financial resources so we're doing the best we can we what we have. We recently made a bread oven and hope to get money to buy the ingredients to start making bread.
On Saturdays afternoon we are working with the youth of our church and it has been a very good time, where we have taught them the Word. We have now started rehearsing a Christmas play. The youth is very excited because this will be their first play. We also have Sunday schools and it's been good seeing how the church is growing in God's Word.
Twice a week we are helping at the project Kukula Pabozi, with the orphan children. We've taught them songs and Bible stories and we have also been teaching them about personal hygiene. This week we cut and washed their hair and bandaged their head wounds. It's so amazing to see that God has been blessing our work in every way.
I was a little sad because this month I was unable to teach any seminary because our car broke. I'm not sure if the problem is in the motor or in turbocharged direct injection but I have taken the car to different mechanics and they haven't been able to figure out what is the problem. Other than this everything has been going great and that is all thanks to you, because you believed in us and have been contributing for this ministry to keep moving forward. Thank you so very much for your trust and love.

Working with Children and Youth

This month Rosaria did some work with orphaned children of the Centro Aberto Mensageiros de Deus and helped in the project Kukula Pabozi-a social project that works with needy children, and we cut the children's hair and taught about personal hygiene. Rosaria is also doing a play with the youth of the church. It has been a blessing.

My apologies for the late September newsletter in English.

Greetings in Christ,

Brothers, I hereby share with you about our ministries for the month of September. God has blessed our work at church with general activities and also with the bible study for the youth on Saturday afternoons. It has been a very good time learning the Word of God. Also the services in prison have been happening every week and it's a blessing and God has done great things among the inmates. Continue praying for us with the various activities in prison like as carpentry, sewing, welding, and now the bread oven. We've had all these activities but with a lot of difficulty due to lack of funding. Please pray that God open doors financially so we can continue to do the work with the inmates.
Also like to share with you about our last seminar for leaders that was help in a town called Marromeu in the Sofala province about 510km fro the city of Chimoio, where we live. It was an amazing time, we ministered to a group of pastors and leaders of 5 different locations. There was a leader that travelled a distance of 400kms to participate, this to us was very rewarding and shows the willingness of the people to learn the Word. But at the same time we came across situations that really shocked us. Some of the pastors and leaders had no Bible, this just reinforces how far we still have to get these leaders well prepared and in addition to receiving the training be able to own a Bible. I want to start a campaign to buy 1,000 Bibles to help the leaders and you can help us.
At this seminary we also worked with the women and children. Rosaria taught the women how to use cassava to prepare bread and cakes. For us it was a precious and blessed time. Please pray for these leaders in Marromeu, Chindi, Morumbala, Caia and Luabo; places that desperately need God. We will return to Marromeu for the inauguration of the church we're helping build where the seminar was held.

I ask for prayer regarding our finances, since we arrived in Mozambique back in June our salary from Brazil has been very fickle and this has caused some inconvenience in the mission field.

Working with Cassava and Cane Sugar

This week we were invited to participate in the course that teaches you to work with sugar cane and cassava. We taught the national to use recipes with sugar cane and cassava to help their diet. This course is being taught in a town 60km from the town of Chimoio called Vanduzi. A project done by MIAF and Pronasce.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Ps. 46:1

Greetings in the Lord. It has been two months since we arrived from Brazil and things are finally settling down. Regarding work, we have started services at the local prisons on Saturday mornings and it has been a blessing. We have seen God working tremendously in every service, many inmates have testified what God has done in their lives. We began two bible classes on Saturday afternoons and two on Sunday afternoons. The students are very excited about this and for being in a prison is great blessing. We have also begun work in our local church and last month we were able to start Sunday school involving the whole church. This for us is a great victory.

Future projects:

We are praying to start a Bible school to train pastor and leaders here in our house, we did this a few years and now want to start again. I have also began teaching at a local bible school but some leaders have asked me to teach other courses and so we'll begin doing so.
We have a big piece of land here in Chimoio and have been thinking about starting a project with children from communities. But we need to build an infrastructure because there is nothing there. We want to start telling children stories and playing games and sports.
We were also invited by the Prevention Against Drugs cabinet to develop some actions together with the teens from the province. But for that we need to create good educational materials and audio visual.
Starting in August we will begin our trips to the districts giving seminars and promoting lectures to pastors and leaders. We also want to use these opportunities to show the film "The Life of Jesus", to the communities. We have a missionary friend that has the sound and visual devices and will let us borrow.

Keep praying for us, for our children and our projects. For God to give us clear direction over all things.

Grace and peace of the Lord. I hope you're all in good health as are we.
Time really goes by fast, it has been a month since we returned to Mozambique. Things are going back to normal after very tumultuous few days. We arrived in Mozambique fine after a scarce. We left Brazil at the same time that the Air France 447 plane that fell into the sea. We passed through terrible turbulence but we praise God nothing happened. When we arrived in Mozambique our luggage had stayed behind in South Africa but we got them back a few days later. When we got home we stayed two weeks without a fridge because we had to replace its motor. One part of the car's alternator broke and we haven't been able to replace it yet. Our computer also burnt its motherboard and we haven't found another to replace it. We know that this the attack from evil trying to discourage us but our God is victorious.
Moving on, our first service at the prison had a big spiritual move and after the preaching we made an appeal and 42 inmates received Christ as their Lord Saviour. It was gratifying to see so many inmates coming to Christ.
This year we have great challenges ahead, we will start giving seminaries and conferences in some provinces and districts. We will also help a government program against drugs giving lectures to teens in the schools and communities. Rosaria will also start her work with children in schools. Please we really need your prayers in this new stage of our lives.

I would take this opportunity, to thank each of you friends and brothers, for helping us with our ministry. Only God can give back everything you have given us, all your prayers, contribution and encouragement making possible this project that is in the Heart of God. I can only say from the bottom of our hearts, Thank you.

Greetings. I'm writing this newsletter to inform you that we've been in Brazil since October. We have been visiting a few churches and telling them about our ministry and what the Lord has done through our lives. We have also talked about the necessities that we have in the field and how hard it is to continue in the field when you do not have a solid support. Since April of 2008 we have been without any financial help and decided to come to Brazil to try and raise our support. Unfortunately we do not have sufficient funds to go back to Mozambique but we believe that God will raise churches that hear His cry for missions. Thank you for all your support and prayers for us and our ministry. May you continue with us through this journey and may you continue helping us in prayer. We count on your support.

Trip to Ile in Zambezia

In July, I was invited to go on a trip with a team from Brazil that came to visit various missionary work in Mozambique. Some of the team members were part of Pronasce and others were field candidates.

Ile is a community located in the Zambezia Province about 750kms from Chimoio. We visited this community where we stayed for 1 week, ministering the word of God, and it was a great time for the team as well as for the community. All the team members were able to minister and testify. We also learned a lot from the simple life in the community and their culture. This trip was one of the most life changing for me. Below are some pictures of our time in Ile.

Dear brothers and friends,

Jesus Christ is alive!

Believe in possibilities. Don't shut your heart. Don't live in your shadow's darkness. Don't stop believing in the stars just because the clouds have covered the heavens. "The Lord has helped us all the way". God is faithful.
Rosaria and I are good, Bless the Lord. Our daughters are also well. The Lord has prospered our work and ministry. Sometimes we may feel tired or discouraged but we keep our hopes alive in the Lord, that has strenghtened us. We know that despite the difficulties He is in control of our lives. Now more than ever we need your support to continue with the ministry God has given us. Our ministry is being threathened and during all these years that we have been in Mozambique we have always been able to count on the support of some churches and friends that has helped us on the field. We also received help from JAM, an African organization, but now we no longer have JAM's financial support to keep us here, and little by little some of the churches and friends that supported us have also stopped. We are praying to our mighty Lord because if He does not awaken churches and people to help contribute to our ministry, unfortunately, we will have to interrupt our long and successful journey. We need to count on people like you, that have your heart on the Lord's ministry, so our ministry does not die.

Continue being our companion in prayer, don't abandon us, we will always count on your support, that is so important.

In 1999 we started working with a Christian NGO, Jesus Alive (now JAM) its base is in South Africa. Jesus Alive has been in Mozambique since 1985 supporting needy families and communities, with clothes and food. In time of floods they also donate clothes, medicine, canvas and tents for the homeless. This NGO works in 6 provinces of Mozambique and we have been in charge of Manica province for 9 years, distributing food in orphanages, hospitals, schools and the needy population.

We have assisted a local church in Chimoio since 1998 and have been able to witness the church's growth. During this time God has done great things in the lives of our Mozambican brothers. We have also given many courses in church for children teachers, biblical studies, youth and leadership. We have worked with Igreja Evangelica Missionaria de Mocambique and it has been a blessing for us.

Services in Cabeca do Velho Prison

We have had worship services in this prison since 2001 and we have a team of counsellors that have contributed in many areas like worship services, counselling, bible studies, etc. There's a school in the prison that was reconstructed by NHPM and the prisoners can now be alphabetized. We also have a carpentry school to train the prisoners. In the worship services we have about 250 prisoners present and many have accepted Christ as their Saviour. There's already a good number of baptized in our prison church.

Inauguration of Gondola's Prison

New Hope Prison Ministries (NHPM) had the honour of handing over Gondola's District Prison, one of the 5 prisons we work with in Manica province. NHPM build with the help of our brothers in Christ and donations from Portugal and Sweden a pavilion that consists of 2 large rooms, one for men and one for women with a total of 4 toilets with the capacity of 200 prisoners. The construction was valued in $18,000USD. The official inauguration was June 13th 2008 and was performed by Your Excellency, the Minister of Justice.

Trip to Marromeu

In May we gathered a few pastors and went to the district of Marromeu in Sofala province about 520km from Chimoio. We were there for 2 weeks to give seminars for local leaders and God poured out His blessings. We then travelled to a community called Luaue where the only way to get there is by boat or helicopter, we spent 3 days there teaching the word of God. Also with us were a medical and an educational group helping the population. There was also a registry officer with us to register all the children in that place. It was tremendous being there and be able to see God making a difference in peoples lives. This community exists for more or less 100yrs and there's only 2 churches and 1 primary school created by YWAM where children and adults are all in the same first grade class.
